Gestalt

Gestalt psychology is a theory of the brain and how it is able to visually recognize entire forms and figures. Gestalt means shape or figure and there are four components of Gestalt psychology:

Emergence- Perception of the image and seeing the shape of the dog

Reification- Perception of a form or shape with out it being there

Multistability- One image that goes back and forth between two images like an illusion

Invariance- Objects can be recognized even though they are distorted or changed in some way

In class on friday we discussed semiotics, which is the study of signs. We also talked about denottaion and connotation and how denotation is a symbol of a man and connotation is restroom which is the meaning assosiated with the symbol of a man. When we started the exversise we had to draw and it was kind of hard for me because i kept bouncing back and forth between ideas on if i should draw an eye or the letter i. The reason i had a hard time was because i was over thinking it and i did the same thing on the other excersise that we did with the positive consumer experience. I liked that we got to see eachothers work and discusses what worked and what didn't because it helped me to understand it more. *Less Lines, More shapes.
